Baby-Faced Assassin Gawad Signs With Eye Rackets
2016 World Champion Karim Abdel Gawad has signed a 3 year clothing and shoe sponsorship agreement with Eye Rackets that sees him become the latest player to partner with the forward-thinking Norwegian squash brand.
As the only true squash brand on the market, Eye Rackets are committed to changing the face of squash apparel by injecting colour and boldness into their clothing, racket and shoe range and have already partnered with some of the most exciting and charismatic players in the sport such as ‘The Black Falcon’ Mazen Hesham and Paul ‘Superman’ Coll.
26-year-old Gawad, who became just the third Egyptian World Champion of all time, has won a total of 18 PSA World Tour titles and earned the nickname ‘The Baby-faced Assassin’ due to his skilful and graceful approach to the game - traits that have seen him compared to the legendary Amr Shabana, the four-time World Champion who was also sponsored by Eye Rackets.
Gawad will wear Eye’s new Performance-line clothing and S-line shoes.
“We are very proud to be the only pure squash brand around and are delighted that Karim has become the latest world class player to join the Eye team,” said Eye Rackets Ambassador & Player Manager Joey Barrington.
“As a brand we want to push the boundaries and reinvent what’s expected from squash apparel and footwear and we are building a portfolio of players who truly embody the principles of the brand. Karim is a former World No.1 and World Champion and is one of the most skilful players on the PSA World Tour."
“His talent is unquestioned, he has a Roger Federer-esque ability to make the game look effortless while his temperament is second-to-none. We hope that he can return to his very best in the 2018-19 season and we look forward to supporting Karim ahead of what could be a great season for him.”
Commenting on the agreement, Gawad said: “I’ve been waiting a long time for a clothing sponsor that really suits me as an individual and both my style on and off the court - and I feel Eye are the perfect fit for me.
“It’s a pleasure for me to wear their performance-line clothing and s-shoes. I love the colours and variety within the brand.
“They’re a young brand, run by players who understand what we need to succeed and I’m very happy to have signed a three-year contract with them. I’ve seen the new clothing coming out for 2019 and it’s very exciting.
“Every player has their own style and colour, which helps us feel unique and I can’t wait to come back strong in the new season.”
